chairs, heart attacks and apple sauce

Posted by m-o-s on September 28, 2009

our little bugger (let’s call him A) has decided that he needs to see the world from a higher angle, i.e. our kitchen chairs. i’m minding my own business making apple sauce and i feel that something is amiss. i turn around and see A on his knees on a chair. my heart literally stopped for a few seconds. oh my, i was dreading this day and now it’s here. come tomorrow, i’m sure i’ll have two climbing buggers instead of one.

ps. killer apple sauce, by the way.

toys, toys and more toys …

Posted by m-o-s on September 27, 2009

M and i had decided long ago, before the kids were even a fact, that we would never let toys infiltrate our house. so … what happened? they’re everywhere. there are just too many of them. and i have no idea how that happened. ok … so, maybe i do. you know, i wouldn’t mind all the toys, if it weren’t for the tripping and the slipping and the apparent need for a 14-month-old boy to throw them as far as humanly possible. oh, and two boys that clean up all the toys they felt the need to strew all over our livingroom floor.

birthday cakes, noah’s ark, and lots of balloons

Posted by m-o-s on July 11, 2009

can you believe it’s actually been a whole year since the whole huffing and puffing incident?! i sure can’t. we chose not to do the whole birthday party thing with tons of kids. it just felt way too stressful. no, our first birthday party with the boys was to be celebrated with family and friends. which wasn’t stressful at all! whose idea was it anyway to make TWO birthday cakes? who decorated this house with a thousand balloons? and whose idea was it to buy a toy ark with tons of toy animals that hurt like hell when you accidentally trip over them?

note to self: birthday party with adults not necessarily less stressful than house full of kids.

we took tons of pictures, of course (thanks lars) but unfortunately, after sorting through all of them, i realized there wasn’t one of me with the kids. bummer.

houston, we have a problem.

Posted by m-o-s on July 7, 2009

so. yes, we have a problem. A has become very attached to his dad. it’s come to that point where some days he just screams his head off until M picks him up. it’s a bit frustrating.

i try to ignore it. but, my heart just aches everytime i try to console him and he just doesn’t want to be with me. it definitely is heartbreaking. it can’t be fun for M either. he’s got this sad little monkey after him all the time.

fortunately, he’s a happy camper when M is at work.

so is this little guy!

except for right now! i better go see what’s going on …

do you hear that?

Posted by m-o-s on July 2, 2009

silence.

they boys are asleep. finally! it’s been one of those days, where everything that can go wrong, does. on top of it all, it’s so hot in this house i’m sure i’ll melt away any second now.

4:30 this morning, my lovely son, A, wakes up. it’s awfully hot in their room and well, i’m not surprised. problem is, he refuses to go back to sleep. neither of us want to get up and for some reason i lost that fight. i get up, go downstairs, try to get this kid to calm down. i’m not a big fan of having my soon-to-be one-year-old scream in my ear at 4:30 am. the best part, when he’s starting to calm down, J wakes up.

Ugh!

well, the only thing that was keeping me sane was knowing that during their nap later that morning i would be able to sleep as well. hah! boy was i wrong. J dutifully goes to sleep during our morning walk, as does A. but just as i get back home A wakes up hysterical. yay! there goes my much needed nap. what do i do now?!

well, to make a long story short. i let J sleep for about an hour. wake him up. try to keep them both awake until 2 pm. i need to get me some earplugs. finally at 2:30 pm both are asleep. one upstairs in his bed, the other outside in the pram.

finally. wait, shhh … do you hear that?

silence.
